Hey guys! As promised, I will provide answers to the most frequently asked questions about family constellations with animals. In the previous post, I told you how I came to this technique (which some call “veterinary constellation”), so if you want to know more just click here.

I'll start with the owners question number one: can the constellation cure my pet? I will be very direct and transparent with you: the constellation was not designed to heal, it was not made as a promise to cure illnesses. But, the constellation can indicate the source of a problem. I will detail how this happens.

Sometimes, the pet has a disease that is manifesting in his/her body, but it has an energy background, so we can look at the cause of this disease. Just remembering that if the disease is manifesting physically, the first thing to be done is to take the animal to the veterinarian. Exams, diagnosis, treatment... All this comes before any other measure! That said, how then can the constellation help?

The purpose of the constellation is to investigate the origin of a problem, physical or behavioral, to try to understand if it is a direct matter of the animal, its system, or whether it has to do with the guardian and his family system. There is also the possibility of discovering that the disease is a purely physical problem.

Then you might want to ask, "But doctor, can there be an improvement or a cure after the constellation?" Yes, I've seen it happenning, so it's possible that animals show improvement in behavior and even in health. But I've also seen cases where nothing has changed. So it is good to be clear that there is no such promise, we do not have this control and we cannot use make the constellation with this intention.

But when we see in the constellation that the pet is getting sick because it is carrying something from the owner's system, it will depend on the tutor himself wanting to look at this in order to release the pet. So now it is I who ask the question: how much is the person seeking the constellation willing or prepared to look at the issues that arise, which will not always be pleasant?

I will emphasize that, if there is a pet's health problem, the help of a veterinarian is necessary, and if the problem is from the owner, it is necessary to go to the doctor, psychologist, physiotherapist, psychiatrist, etc., because the constellation is not a treatment, human doctor or veterinarian.

I'll give a real example to illustrate all this what I'm trying to say. There was a man who had already had four cats, one after the death of another. He reported that all his cats got sick very often. He was undergoing treatment for one disease and then another showed up. Almost every month he had to go to the vet, always for different reasons!

This guy came to me saying he was tired of the situation, because he loved and treated his cats very well, offered everything good, and even so they always got sick. He then wanted to seek, from a systemic point of view, an understanding of what was happening with his fury friends, even to find out if he was the one who generated all this. “Am I really unlucky like that?” he asked, jokingly but visibly worried.

During the dynamics of the constellation, a very great sadness appeared, and there was an intense connection between this sadness and cat illnesses. At that point, he was asked: “Does this make sense to you? Is there any sadness issue that you identify?”, to which he replied that yes, it made a lot of sense.

I explained that the field showed the sadness linked to the illness of cats, but he was straight up and a bit rude: “I don't want to talk about it, I don't want to know about my mother, I just came to know about my cats”. In cases like this, we respect the person's decision, but we can't do anything to help.

The constellation cannot do for someone what that someone is not ready or willing to do. The same is true when animals are involved. I often say that the constellation lifts the rug so you can see what's down there, but it doesn't clean for you. By itself, it doesn't solve any problems.
